| Betty J. Eadie is the mother of eight children, grandmother of fourteen, and is celebrating thirty-fifth year of marriage to her husband Joe. The seventh of ten children, Ms. Eadie was born in Valentine, Nebraska and raised on the Rosebud Indian Reservation and in Rapid City, South Dakota. Her mother was Sioux and her father was Scotch-Irish. On November 18, 1973 Betty J. Eadie died from complications due to a partial-hysterectomy surgery. After being restored to life, Betty suffered with depression - so painful was her separation from the light of love she experienced during her moments of clinical death. Twenty years later, after sharing her story with family and friends, and with critically ill cancer patients, Betty was urged to write her experience so that a wider audience might share its beauty. In 1992, Embraced by the Light was published by a small press out of Carson City, Nevada. Embraced became a permanent fixture on the New York Times Bestsellers list, spending more than a year at #1. Betty traveled extensively for three years to speak upon the topic of her book before writing The Awakening Heart, which was also received upon the bestsellers list and continues to sell well. In 1998, Betty established Onjinjinkta Publishing, a courageous and selfless move designed to promote sound book publishing practices. She is intimately involved in the operations of her publishing company, which is aggressively claiming its share of the market. Ms. Eadie's third book, The Ripple Effect was published by Onjinjinkta in the fall of 1999. Betty, her husband Joe, and her family have continued to reside in the greater Seattle area since 1967.
